Damon Jones Expected to Plead Guilty in NBA Sports Betting Case
Damon Jones, a former NBA player and assistant coach, is expected to plead guilty in a hearing on April 28, 2024. Jones was involved in both the sports betting operation and the poker scheme. The cheating allegations came to light as part of a wide-ranging investigation that led to the arrests of more than 30 people in October, including Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups and Miami Heat point guard Terry Rozier.
Damon Jones allegedly texted on Feb. 9, 2023, about a player sitting out that night, which led to the Lakers losing the game. Prosecutors allege he provided non-public information to gamblers on other occasions as well. He was allegedly paid $2,500 in June 2024 by sports bettor Marves Fairley for information that led to a winning wager of $100,000.
Timothy McCormack was sentenced to two years in federal prison for his involvement in the case. Chauncey Billups has pleaded not guilty in the case involving rigging high-stakes poker games. Terry Rozier has also pleaded not guilty to any involvement in the sports betting scheme. Gershman pleaded guilty to helping organize high-stakes poker games for former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
