Crown Casino Faces License Suspension Over Money Laundering Allegations

Crown Casino, one of Australia's largest gambling establishments, has been temporarily closed due to suspicions of money laundering. This closure is not related to quarantine measures but rather to allegations from local law enforcement regarding the casino's involvement in money laundering activities.

Following an audit by the Australian gambling regulator, Crown Resorts' CEO Ken Barton resigned. The audit revealed that the casino had facilitated money laundering and maintained commercial relationships with criminal groups, putting its staff at risk of arrest in foreign jurisdictions. The regulator stated, "The casino facilitated money laundering, exposed staff to the risk of arrest in foreign jurisdictions, and maintained commercial relationships with individuals linked to criminal groups."

According to preliminary data, Crown Casino has long allowed high-roller Chinese gamblers, linked to organized crime, to launder money through their operations. Currently, negotiations are underway with authorities regarding the possible retention of the casino's license. However, the gambling regulator has refused to allow the casino to continue operating until further notice. It is possible that the casino may regain its license after the CEO sells his stake in the company.
