Crown Casino Melbourne Resumes Poker Tournaments, Aussie Millions Hopeful

Crown Casino Melbourne is resuming poker tournaments starting November 29, 2023, raising hopes for the return of the iconic Aussie Millions Poker Championship, which has not been held since 2020. The new weekly tournament has a $250 buy-in and is seen as a test to gauge demand for future events.

Crown Resorts' Recent Challenges

Crown Resorts, the operator of Crown Casino Melbourne, has faced significant challenges in recent years. The company postponed future Aussie Millions events in January 2023 and has been under investigation for compliance failures. These issues led to new, strict gambling laws and a declaration that Crown Resorts was unfit to hold a casino license. However, the company was allowed to continue operating after promising sweeping changes and replacing almost all executives.

Hopes for the Future of Poker at Crown Melbourne

Casino Manager Daniel Trubiano expressed hope that poker will once again become central to what Crown Melbourne offers its customers. The Aussie Millions was a permanent fixture on the poker calendar since 1998, attracting top players with multi-million dollar guarantees and top-notch facilities. While there are no guarantees yet, rumors persist that Crown Melbourne is considering running a major event to attract poker's big names.
