Chris Murrman Shares Poker Strategies in Exclusive Interview
Chris Murrman, one of the most famous online poker players in the world, recently shared his poker strategies in an interview with Nick Wright for Pokerplayer magazine. Murrman advises that bluffing at the right moment can be very beneficial. For example, when a large stack makes a raise and another aggressive large stack re-raises, it is often done with air, because with a medium-strength hand like Tx Tx or Jx Jx, they would simply call to avoid inflating the pot.
Murrman suggests that players should avoid using the check-raise strategy. He believes that the check-raise is no longer effective because it allows opponents to bluff with a check-raise. For instance, on a board like Ax 7x 3x rainbow, the pre-flop aggressor often has a good hand like Qx Qx and is using pot control. Therefore, many players automatically check-raise such boards. A few years ago, a pre-flop raise indicated a strong hand, and all players would fold if they had nothing. Today, a pre-flop raise is more of an invitation to 3-bet, and a check-raise becomes an invitation to check-raise.
Murrman believes that tight-aggressive play (TAG) is easier than loose-aggressive play (LAG). He thinks that many players struggle to adapt to TAG play and end up paying for their strong hands. Murrman also thinks that tournaments can be easier to win money in than cash games, especially at higher stakes where the fields are smaller and the variance is lower.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
