Poker Pro Chris Hani Ken Wins $10,000 Bet on COVID-19 Deaths, Donates Winnings
Professional poker player Chris Hani Ken made headlines recently, not for a poker victory, but for a unusual bet. The bet, placed during the COVID-19 pandemic, was on the number of deaths from the virus in the United States.
Chris Hani Ken stated that his goal was not to make money, but to raise awareness about the seriousness of the pandemic. He wrote, “I want to take a bet on more than 100,000 deaths from Covid-19 in the USA by September 1. For a successful bet, I need to know you personally.”
Despite criticism, Chris Hani Ken's bet was successful. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the US exceeded 100,000 by May 2020. Chris Hani Ken won $10,000 and donated the entire amount to charity.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
