China Tightens Online Gambling Laws, Threatens Up to 10 Years in Prison
China's National People's Congress recently amended the Criminal Code to impose harsher penalties for aiding foreign providers of illegal online gambling within the country. Those who assist or collaborate with foreign gambling operators face up to 10 years in prison under the new amendments.
The amendments will take effect from the beginning of March, with a grace period for self-surrender until April 30. Those who voluntarily confess to their crimes before April 30 may receive lighter sentences.
This move is part of China's ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal online gambling activities, which have been a contentious issue within the country. The new regulations aim to deter individuals and organizations from engaging in or facilitating illegal gambling operations, thereby protecting citizens from the associated risks.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
