Brad Owen Opens Up About Poker Struggles and Industry Challenges
Poker player Brad Owen has opened up about his mental health struggles and the challenges he faces in the poker industry. Owen has earned $1 million from poker over 20 years, but he has also experienced significant financial losses. After his peak profit before the WSOP 2024, Owen lost $400,000. He has only one losing year, which was the previous year, but he is already losing $100,000 this year.
Despite his financial struggles, Owen has had some victories. He won $60,000 in a $2k HORSE tournament, where he defeated several strong regulars including Mike Leah, Chris Witch, and John Turner. However, Owen feels isolated and is experiencing burnout. He is part of the World Poker Tour (WPT) team, but he is concerned about the direction of poker content and advertising.
Owen has refused to advertise other gambling games on WPT Gold, as he believes it would be selling out. He also believes that Andrew Neeme should be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame for his contributions to the game. Additionally, Owen suggests moving the WSOP Bahamas series to January and reducing the number of online bracelets.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
