Artem Vejenkov, a popular Russian poker player known by his PokerStars nickname "veeea", won the Main Event of the Sochi Poker Festival: Summer. The tournament, held at Casino Sochi, had a buy-in of $770 and attracted 784 entries, creating a prize pool of $521,360.
The final table was an all-Russian affair, with nine players making it to the final nine. The runner-up was Egor Turubanov, who earned $58,970. Garik Tamasyan, known as the "Armenian phenomenon", finished third, taking home $41,140.
In the final hand, Vejenkov pushed all-in with J♥-7♣ from the button, and Turubanov called with K♠-3♣ from the big blind. The flop came 10♣-A♦-J♦, giving Vejenkov a pair of jacks and Turubanov a straight draw. The turn and river did not improve Turubanov's hand, securing Vejenkov's victory. Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
