Alexander Kostritsin's Epic Poker Marathons and Bets: A Retrospective

Alexander Kostritsin, a renowned poker player, has undertaken several ambitious poker marathons and bets over the years. One of his first documented attempts was in 2005, when he started a marathon with a $50 capital, aiming to reach $10,000 as quickly as possible. He planned to play single-table tournaments initially and later add multi-table tournaments, promising daily reports and sharing memorable hands.

However, Kostritsin abandoned this marathon after a few days due to a bad streak and decided to return to his previous account. Another player, Ivan Demidov, joined Kostritsin's marathon with a similar starting capital but also withdrew shortly after beginning.

In 2008, Kostritsin embarked on another marathon with a $1,000 starting capital, aiming to increase it to $100,000 within a week. He won a heads-up tournament with a $1,000 buy-in, boosting his capital to $94,500. He then decided to complete the marathon by playing PLO, increasing his capital to $104,850. This victory was significant for Kostritsin, as it helped him regain his confidence after a recent loss.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
