Poker Pro Alex Millar's Wild 2013: Losses and Lessons
Poker player Alex Millar, known as Kanu7 on PokerStars, started playing poker 8 years ago during his university studies. He began with freerolls and small MTT/SNG tournaments, gradually moving up to higher stakes. Millar started playing NL100 with a $3k bankroll and eventually moved up to NL2k.
In January 2013, Millar faced significant losses in high-stakes games. He lost $700,000 in a game against Viktor Blom and another $300,000 to Phil Ivey. These losses accumulated to a total of $1 million within the first month of the year. Despite these setbacks, Millar's investors continued to support him, believing in his skills and potential for recovery.
Millar ended the first half of 2013 with a loss of $1.5 million. He attributed this to the challenges of finding suitable opponents and the high stakes involved. However, Millar remained determined to improve his game and regain his losses. He focused on studying and practicing 6-max games, which eventually led to better results in the second half of the year.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
