55% of U.S. Adults Gamble Monthly, New Report Shows
A new study by the Wheatley Institute at Brigham Young University reveals that 55% of U.S. adults gamble at least once a month. The report, titled "Gambling With Our Future," analyzed the gambling habits of 2,548 U.S. adults, examining various forms of gambling activities across the country.
Financial gain and entertainment were cited as primary motivators for gambling. The study found that overall, 55% of the respondents gamble at least once a month, while roughly one in eight admitted to gambling every day. Among young men, regular monthly engagement is higher at 63% admitting to participating in gambling, compared to 48% of women.
The younger group of adults, ages 18 and 29, are more likely to frequently engage in gambling. Mobile sports betting proves to be especially popular among young men, with 67% of men in the age group between 18 and 29 reporting betting at least once in the past year compared to 41% of young women. An overwhelming majority of the participants, or eight out of ten people, agreed that most gamblers will lose money over time. However, half of the gamblers believed that if they gamble for a single hour, they will either win money or at least break even.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
