5 Unbelievable Fold Decisions in Live Poker Tournaments
PokerStars experts have handpicked five extraordinary moments from their live tournament broadcasts where players made the tough call to fold their cards. These decisions, though difficult, showcased the players' strategic prowess and mental fortitude.
The first notable fold involves Dominik Panka during the EPT Malta 2015 main event. Panka, facing off against Jean Montury and Valentin Messina, found himself in a critical situation. With Tx Tx against Montury's Qx Qx, Panka made a 3-bet and quickly folded when Montury made a 4-bet in the cold. This decision, though risky, allowed Panka to avoid a potential early exit and ultimately secure third place.
In another dramatic moment, Dani Parlafes faced Ognen Dimov during the final EPT Deauville title in 2015. In a limped pot, Dimov hit a nut straight on the turn, and Parlafes found himself with a lower straight on the river. Dimov's bet of 1,200,000 in a pot of 680,000 was enough to scare Parlafes into folding. Despite this setback, Parlafes continued to play but ultimately couldn't turn the tide.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
