49ers Future Uncertain: Turmoil, Ownership Issues, and Shanahan's Potential Move
The San Francisco 49ers are facing an uncertain future due to internal turmoil and ownership issues. League officials believe head coach Kyle Shanahan could move to the Washington Commanders in the future.
There is serious turmoil and unrest in the 49ers' ownership group. Acting owner Jed York was arrested on prostitution charges back in Ohio this summer. Jed York’s twin sisters, Jenna and Mara York, haven’t been involved in the football operations. Longtime top exec Paraag Marathe split in August to focus on the group’s soccer holdings, led by Leeds United.
The 49ers' recent drafts have been poor, locker room strife has been high, and the roster skews old in critical spots. Shanahan is a coaching free agent after the 2027 season. Longtime 49ers exec Adam Peters is running the Commanders. Shanahan ran Washington’s offense previously as the coordinator when his father, Mike, was head coach.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
