Fold equity in poker
Definition
The extra value you gain from a bet or raise because your opponent may fold and give up the pot.
Fold equity is the probability that the opponent folds multiplied by the pot you win when they do. A bet with some fold equity can be profitable even when your hand has little showdown value.
It is largest when the opponent's range is weak, stacks are shallow and your story is believable. Against a calling station it is close to zero.
