Downswing in poker
Definition
A losing stretch, sometimes long, that is caused by variance rather than by playing badly.
Even strong players can lose hundreds of big blinds in a row. A proper bankroll and a calm mindset are the main defences, because a downswing makes many players tilt and play worse.
The opposite, a winning stretch above expectation, is called an upswing or running hot.
