Bet in poker
Definition
The first wager of a betting round, which others must call, raise or fold against.
A bet can be made for value, to get called by worse hands, or as a bluff, to make better hands fold. The size of a bet is usually described as a share of the pot.
Once someone has bet, further wagers in the same round are called raises.
