4-bet in poker

Definition

A re-raise of a 3-bet before the flop, the fourth wager in the sequence.

A 4-bet usually shows a very strong hand such as aces, kings or ace-king, but a few bluffs are included in balanced ranges. In many tournaments with short stacks a 4-bet is effectively an all-in.

Facing a 4-bet you can fold, call or shove, and the decision depends on stack size, the opponent and your hand.
