WSOP TV Coverage Begins, PokerStars All Star Week Kicks Off, and Negreanu Celebrates Birthday

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) television coverage began on July 28, 2010, with a two-hour broadcast on ESPN. The coverage will continue every week until November, featuring various tournaments. The first broadcast included the 8-game championship, where Vladimir Schemelev showcased strong play. However, the television version only included the final table, which featured no-limit hold'em, a format considered more accessible to American viewers.

Michael Mizrahi, who won the event, received significant support from the audience, but his playing style and the behavior of his supporters drew criticism from viewers. John Juanda, one of the finalists, joked about Mizrahi's large support group, suggesting he owed money to many people. This comment referenced Mizrahi's reported financial troubles before the WSOP.

PokerStars' All Star Week has begun, featuring 35 head-to-head matches between the site's professional team and a group of challengers. The challengers were selected based on their performances in recent tournaments. Ivan Demidov is set to play against Timmy K in a head-to-head match. Demidov, who has limited experience in the game they will play, is hoping to leverage his skills in triple draw. Daniel Negreanu celebrated his 36th birthday and received $80,000 from his online poker opponents. Additionally, Phil Galfond returned to online poker after the WSOP and shared his results on Twitter, noting that his first session was not very successful.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
