WSOP Main Event Day 7: Super Call, Scandal with Time Banks

On Day 7 of the WSOP Main Event, the blinds and antes were 100k/200k/200k. At one table sat Dib, Enson, chip leader Gaston and Soyka, while at the other were Belekhov, Todd Brunson, regulars Galiano and Pantaleo, as well as big stack Li Zhao. The first bust-out player of the day was Konya Zhang, the last woman in the tournament and the top Chinese player according to GPI ranking.

Time Bank Scandal

The main topic in poker Twitter became the sudden introduction of time banks on all streets, which sparked criticism and proposals to sue WSOP. Some players, such as Daniel Zak, called the decision «tragic», and a petition emerged calling for the dismissal of Jack Eiffel.

Key Hands and Chip Count Changes

After the hand with Vaziri, who check-raised all-in on the flop and busted from the main, Belekhov received a 3-bet with AKo and quickly folded his opponent, and then Todd Brunson re-bought his AJs on the flop. Artur Astraskas busted in 49th place, receiving $180,000 after his stack dropped below 20 bb. Gaston, after his chip lead diminished, lost the pot to Soyka, when Igor spent his time banks and made a blocking bet, while Gaston simply called. Blake Baruss 3-bet from the small blind with 64o, and Brock Wilson called. Given, after his stack grew, moved to second place in the chip count, and 49 players remained at the new blind level of 125k/250k/250k.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
