Upswing Poker Experts Discuss Range Bets in Poker
Mike Brady and Gary Blackwood, renowned coaches from Upswing Poker, have been hosting a dynamic podcast called Level Up on the Upswing Poker channel. Their latest episode focuses on range bets, a strategy where betting with the entire range can be beneficial. The episode delves into the nuances of range bets, explaining how they generate fold equity and force opponents to call with weak hands.
Favorable flops for range bets include unconnected offsuit boards with one Broadway card, such as K83, Q72, and J62. High paired boards like KK3, QQ4, TT5, and AAJ are also suitable for range bets with small sizing. In 3-bet pots, comfortable range bets can be made on boards with two Broadway cards, all unconnected K-high and J-high boards, and high paired flops.
If you have notes on an opponent, such as knowing they do not 4-bet AK, you should adjust your range betting strategy accordingly. Range bets should be used sparingly without position, and players should check on most boards. Understanding these nuances can significantly improve your poker strategy and win rates.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
