Unibet Moves Live Poker Events Online for Player Safety

Unibet has announced that all of their popular Unibet Open events will be moved to their online platform for the rest of the year. This decision comes as a precaution to ensure the safety of players amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Unibet was the first major organizer to make this move in 2020, and they have decided to continue with the same approach this year.

Unibet brand ambassador David Lappin expressed disappointment but pride in the decision to prioritize player safety. "We were the first to announce the switch to online last year and we’ve taken similar fast, decisive action this year," Lappin said. "I’ll admit that I was holding out hope that a December event could have been on the cards so like many of our players, I am disappointed. Ultimately though, I’m really proud of how we have put player safety above everything else." Nataly Sopacuaperu, Unibet’s Head of Events, cited uncertainty over travel restrictions and the success of online events as reasons for the decision.

The Unibet Deepstacks Open will be held in Malta at the Portomaso Casino from March 11-14, 2021. The event will follow strict safety measures, including limited tables of five players and one dealer, mandatory masks, and pre-registration to avoid queues. Alex Henry, the event organiser, has been organising Deepstack Open events in Malta for over a decade and is confident in the safety measures implemented by the Portomaso Casino.
