UKIP Advisor Loses 16 Million Pounds in High-Stakes Poker Game
George Cottrell, a former trusted advisor to the leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), lost 16 million pounds in a high-stakes cash game. The game took place in Montenegro during the Triton Poker high roller series.
Cottrell is a 30-year-old British financier and the nephew of Baron Thomas Alexander Fermor-Hesketh. He was the personal advisor to the controversial politician Nigel Farage and had a significant influence during the Brexit campaign.
In 2016, Cottrell was arrested on charges of money laundering related to drug sales. He expressed surprise at the high stakes, mentioning that seeing the flop required a minimum bet of 160,000 pounds. Cottrell's poker skills were described as catastrophic, and he was seen as an easy target for more experienced players.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
