Poker Player Discovers Defects in TV Poker Cards During Tournament
During a high roller tournament at the Amber Poker Championship, poker player Rinat Lyapin noticed defects in the cards being used. The defects included cards that were bent or warped, which Lyapin referred to as 'лодочки' (lodochki).
Lyapin observed that the defects seemed to follow a pattern, with certain suits and ranks being more affected. He noted that the defects were present in multiple decks and that the issue persisted even after new decks were introduced.
The organizers of the tournament initially attributed the defects to a manufacturing issue and continued the game with a different set of cards. However, the issue was also noted in other poker tournaments and regions, indicating a wider problem with the RFID-enabled cards. The poker club SOBRANIE and the Amber Poker Championship have decided to stop using the defective cards and are searching for a new supplier.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
