Reddit Co-Founder Backs New Betting App Wagr: Social Media Meets Sports Betting
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has invested $4 million in Wagr, a new betting app that aims to fuse social media with betting. Founded in 2020, Wagr allows users to bet with friends and record, share, and store their betting history, highlighting the social media aspect of the app.
Wagr will initially offer point-spread bets on major sports and plans to include prop-bets and money-line bets. The app aims to simplify the betting experience with a clean and easy-to-use interface. If a friend is not available to take a bet, the app will find somebody in the user’s state who is.
To promote healthy and responsible gaming, Wagr imposes a $500 limit for a single bet. The app does not profit from increased gambling, ensuring that users are gambling responsibly. Wagr has a pending license application for launch in Virginia and officially launched in Tennessee in September.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
