Poker Strategy: Opening Raises from Late Positions

The article is part of a series titled 'Bond18: "Вещи, которые я понял со временем"'.

The author discusses the importance of stack sizes behind you when deciding on an opening raise from a late position. For effective stacks of 50BB and more, the author recommends raising with hands like 22+, A2s+, A7o+, 54s+, JTo+, KTo+, QTo+, 75s+, T7s+. With effective stacks of around 40BB, the author suggests considering the aggressiveness of players behind you and adjusting the raising range accordingly. For effective stacks of around 30BB, the author recommends tightening the raising range, especially against aggressive players. With effective stacks of 14-22BB, the author advises raising only with hands that you are willing to go all-in with. With effective stacks of 13BB or less, most of your raises from late positions will be all-ins.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
