The World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2021 rules initially stated that players with a positive COVID-19 test or contact with an infected person would be disqualified. As of August 14, 2021, the rules were updated to allow fully vaccinated players without symptoms to participate.

Alex Foxen and Kristen Bicknell are prominent poker players who have expressed skepticism towards COVID-19 vaccines. Alex Foxen questioned the chances of an unvaccinated player avoiding disqualification if seen near an infected person. Kristen Bicknell tweeted about her opposition to the harassment of those who refuse to get vaccinated.

Charlie Carrel recommended that players thoroughly investigate both sides before making a decision about vaccination. David Lappon noted that poker players' research methods differ from academic scientists, focusing more on personal strategies than rigorous experimentation.
