Poker World Buzzes with Exciting Tournaments, Regulatory Shifts, and Corporate Moves

The poker world is buzzing with excitement as several high-stakes tournaments and significant regulatory changes are on the horizon. From October 13 to 17, Monte-Carlo will host the One Drop Extravaganza, featuring a tournament with a buy-in of €1,000,000, where at least 35 amateurs will compete. Dan Shulman and Guy Laliberte are among the confirmed participants, with Shulman hiring Scott Seiver for preparation and Laliberte bringing in Daniel Negreanu as his trainer.

The Triton Super High Roller series is set to return to Manila from November 3 to 7, featuring two tournaments with unlimited re-buys. The series will include a 6-max Warm-Up with a buy-in of HK$200,000 ($25,700) and a tournament with a buy-in of HK$500,000 ($64,400). Notable participants include John Juanda, Daniel Negreanu, Mustafa Kanit, Tom Dwan, and a group of Chinese businessmen.

In regulatory news, European regulators have acknowledged that isolating markets in France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy was a mistake, leading to decreased profits and tax revenues. France is set to allow local players to play on licensed European sites without restrictions, pending the signature of President François Hollande. However, user Hood on 2+2 forum expressed skepticism, noting that the changes may not be as optimistic as they seem and that significant changes are unlikely before 2017.
