Poker News Roundup: Cheating Scandals, Legal Battles, and Mega Tournaments

Wynn casino has filed a lawsuit against Leo Fernandez and Veronica Dabul, seeking to recover $700,000 won through a cheating operation at crap tables. The duo, part of the Argentine team PokerStars, was arrested in July but quickly released. The cheating involved manipulating dice to ensure they landed on the desired number without rolling over.

The U.S. Department of Justice has extended the deadline for responses to the 'Black Friday' lawsuit involving Full Tilt, PokerStars, and Absolute Poker/Ultimate Bet to October 31, 2011. John Campos and Chad Eli, who facilitated money transfers, have filed a counterclaim arguing that poker is not gambling and thus not subject to UIGEA.

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission has stated it is no longer involved in resolving issues related to Full Tilt. Meanwhile, the International Stadiums Poker Tour, backed by Bernard Tapie, plans to hold its first tournament at Wembley Stadium with a guaranteed prize pool of $30,000,000. The event is scheduled for May 10-12, 2012.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
