Online Poker in 2019: Record Breaking Tournaments and Rising Stars
The year 2019 was a remarkable one for online poker, with several key developments shaping the landscape of the game. PokerStars' WCOOP series had a total prize pool of over $100,000,000 in 2019, exceeding its guarantee by nearly 40%.
The GG Network's third series, combined with the Blade high roller series, had a total prize pool of over $60,000,000. GG Network's regular high roller series Blade features tournaments with buy-ins of $5,000 and $10,000. GG Network's Winter Holidays Series features 254 tournaments, with the cheapest costing $2.10.
PokerMatch has been running large tournament series with weekly leaderboards for three months. Knockout tournaments have become increasingly popular, with major rooms running series consisting entirely of knockouts. PokerStars introduced accelerated spins with a short starting stack and increased blind growth on popular multipliers.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
