NFL Injury Costs Soar: Teams Lost $540M to Injuries in 2025/26
The financial impact of injuries on NFL teams has reached unprecedented levels, with teams collectively spending over $540 million on injured players during the 2025/26 season. This marks a 23.3% increase from the previous year, highlighting the rising financial burden of injuries in the league.
The Arizona Cardinals topped the list with the highest injury-related spending, totaling $42.4 million. This significant figure underscores the financial toll that injuries can take on a team, as the Cardinals' spending was a $25 million increase from the 2024/25 season. The team's struggles with injuries were well-documented, leading to the firing of coach Jonathan Gannon and the release of quarterback Kyler Murray.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Jacksonville Jaguars had the lowest injury spending in the league, with just $4.08 million. This efficient figure highlights the Jaguars' success in managing player health and availability, which contributed to their first 10+ win season since 2017 and their best regular-season record since 1999.
Other notable teams with high injury costs include the Tennessee Titans, who spent over $29.5 million, the Miami Dolphins with $27.4 million, the New York Jets with $27.2 million, and the Cincinnati Bengals with $25.5 million. These teams faced significant financial impacts due to injuries, which affected their performance and standings.
Teams with lower injury costs, such as the Seattle Seahawks at $7.3 million and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at $7.8 million, demonstrated the benefits of having a healthy roster. The Seahawks, who won the Super Bowl last season, had a slight increase in injury costs but still managed to keep it relatively low compared to other teams.
