New York Fines Global Poker Owner $8 Million for Illegal Online Gaming
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced an $8 million settlement with VGW Holdings. The state had accused the company of operating illegal online gaming platforms in the state. VGW is the company behind Global Poker, Chumba Casino, and Luckyland Slots.
VGW uses a dual-currency gaming model. Players can use gold coins to play for free, while those who purchase additional gold coins receive sweeps coins as a bonus currency. Players can use sweeps coins in separate games and exchange them for cash or prizes. VGW had been operating in New York since 2012.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
