NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship Returns for 2013
The NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship has been held annually since 2005. The tournament was created to fill the void left by the canceled 2004-2005 NHL season. The 2013 tournament will feature 64 players, with a buy-in of $25,000.
The tournament will be held from January 24 to 26, 2013, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The tournament features a fast-paced structure with 15-minute levels. The tournament is the only poker TV show on American television at the moment.
The 2013 tournament will feature several new players, including Gaël Boman, Viktor Blom, Justin Bonomo, Mohsin Charania, Joseph Cheong, Sean Deeb, Matt Glantz, John Monnett, Chris Moneymaker, Greg Merson, Ben Lamb, Scott Seiver, Dan Smith, and Jason Somerville. Several high-profile players, including Tony G, Vanessa Selbst, Sam Trickett, Joe Hachem, and Jesse Sylvia, have declined invitations to the tournament. The tournament has featured several memorable moments in past seasons, including a 2005 match between Daniel Negreanu and Jerry Buss, and a 2010 match between Jason Mercier and Phil Laak.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
