Magnus Carlsen: Chess Champ Dabbles in Poker

Magnus Carlsen, the youngest player to top the chess rating list, has shown interest in poker. During tournaments, Carlsen plays online poker, stating that it gives him a life outside of chess. He attributes his success in chess to technological advancements and databases of games, which allow players to study the game more efficiently than previous generations.

Carlsen's trainer, Garry Kasparov, has expressed his thoughts on the potential of poker as a model for AI development. In an article for The New York Review of Books, Kasparov suggests that poker, with its hidden cards and betting strategies, could be more suitable for AI learning than chess. He notes that while chess provides complete information to both players, poker introduces elements of luck, bluffing, and risk management, which are more aligned with human psychology.

Kasparov also mentions that many chess professionals are spending more time playing poker, which could indicate a shift in how players approach strategic games. He believes that this trend might encourage humans to take more risks for the sake of progress, a notion that could be reinforced by the advancements in AI and poker.
