Kevin Van der Smissen Wins Irish Poker Open, Scott Seiver Tops Party Poker Premier League

Kevin Van der Smissen won the Irish Poker Open, earning €420,000. The Irish Poker Open has been running since 1980 and is held at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin. The tournament has seen multiple winners, including Colette Dougherty, who won in 1980 and again in 1991, Noel Furlong, Mickey Finn, Liam Flood, Joe Beavers, Marty Smith, Neil Channing, and Crister Johansson. However, the Irish Poker Open has seen a decline in popularity, with 502 participants this year compared to 708 last year.

Scott Seiver won the Party Poker Premier League, earning $500,000. The Party Poker Premier League featured a $25,000 buy-in and a slow structure. The tournament featured players such as Daniel Cates, Phil Laak, Patrik Antonius, Tony G, Tom Dwan, Matthew Frankland, and Sam Trickett.

Robert Bagley, a 60-year-old pensioner from Leicester, won the UKIPT in Nottingham, earning £210,400. The UKIPT in Nottingham had 1,625 participants and a buy-in of £770. Bagley recently sold his pub and began actively playing poker in the cult club 'Dusk Till Dawn' in Nottingham, preferring freerolls of £15 and cheap cash games.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
