Kentucky Derby Betting Off Limits for Prediction Markets
Prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket have removed betting options for the Kentucky Derby at the request of Churchill Downs. Churchill Downs spokesperson Breck Thomas-Ross confirmed that they asked Polymarket to remove the wagers. The 1978 Interstate Horseracing Act gives state gaming regulators significant power to oversee betting on horses.
National Thoroughbred Racing Association President and CEO Tom Rooney wrote a letter to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) stating that trading on horse racing would violate the Interstate Horseracing Act. The NBA is asking prediction markets to remove markets for players aged 18 to 20. MLB announced a deal with Polymarket in March, including a memorandum of understanding with the CFTC to help with ensuring game integrity. The NHL reached deals with Kalshi and Polymarket in October and is working with the CFTC to create guidelines for event contracts on sports.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
