Jonathan Little Shares Expert Strategy for Playing Pocket Jacks

Poker strategy expert Jonathan Little recently shared his approach to playing pocket jacks in a $1,500 buy-in tournament. Little raised to 2,000 out of his 80,000 stack from early position with J-J. A tight, aggressive player called from middle position with 20,000 chips, while a loose, splashy player with 80,000 called from the big blind.

The flop came 10♦5♠2♥ and the big blind checked. Little bet 2,800 into the 6,400 pot, and only the tight, aggressive player called. The turn was the 8♣, and Little bet 4,400 out of his opponent’s 15,200 stack. The river was the 9♦, and Little went all-in for his opponent’s entire 10,800 stack into the 20,800 pot. After about four minutes of thought, his opponent folded.

Jonathan Little is a WSOP bracelet winner, two-time WPT winner, and the 2024 PokerGO Cup champion with $9 million in live tournament earnings. His expertise in poker strategy is widely recognized, and he continues to share his knowledge to help players improve their game.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
