Japan Prepares to Legalize Casinos with New Gambling Law
Japan is on the verge of a significant shift in its gambling landscape. Most gambling activities have been prohibited in Japan, with the exception of Pachinko and Takarakuji. The new law will allow for the creation of integrated resort zones where casinos can operate. These zones will be established in Osaka, Nagasaki, Wakayama, and Yokohama.
Only licensed operators will be allowed to provide gambling services in these zones. The law will come into effect on July 19th, 2023. This move comes after years of discussions and preparations, with the government aiming to attract more tourists and boost the economy.
The integrated resort zones will feature not only casinos but also hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, creating a comprehensive tourist experience. The government hopes that this will not only attract more tourists but also create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
