Healthcare Students Turn to Prediction Markets and Content Platforms for Tuition

Healthcare students are increasingly turning to alternative revenue streams to cover tuition and living expenses. A recent survey by Clasp, a workforce infrastructure company, revealed that 70% of healthcare students use platforms such as FanDuel or Kalshi at least a few times a week. The survey, conducted between June 16 and 28, involved 1,000 respondents who shared their experiences with funding their education and other expenses.

According to the survey, only half of the students reported making a profit from their activities on prediction platforms. Clasp CEO Tess Michaels highlighted the worrying trend, noting that students are not betting for fun but are actively trying to turn a profit. Most students are barely breaking even, with the average win or loss ranging between $100 and $1,000. One student managed to win $50,000, while another lost the same amount.

In addition to prediction markets, healthcare students are also exploring other revenue streams such as YouTube, TikTok, Substack, and OnlyFans. However, these platforms are usually difficult to use to generate a consistent revenue stream. The survey also noted that prediction platforms tend to be more popular with male students, whereas only a fifth of female students use these platforms.
