The Future of Online Poker in the Netherlands: Opportunities and Challenges

The online gambling industry in the Netherlands is valued at $2.533 million and is expected to grow to $5.226 billion by 2033. This growth trend is also evident in niche sectors like poker, with many operators racing to secure their share of the Dutch market. PartyPoker Nederland, for instance, has already applied for a gambling license and is awaiting approval.

Mobile-friendly designs will become increasingly important as most modern gamblers prefer the convenience of mobile devices. There are over 25.3 million active mobile connections in the Netherlands, equaling about 138% of the country’s population. Mobile-friendly designs can encourage up to 74% of shoppers to become regular buyers, and responsive mobile platforms have an 11% higher conversion rate than non-responsive ones.

Personalization will also become the norm, with almost eight in ten (76%) expressing frustrations when they don’t get personalized shopping experiences. 45% of shoppers will likely take their business elsewhere if brands fail to offer personalized experiences. The tight gambling regulations in the Netherlands, including a 2023 ban on untargeted advertising, make it challenging for casinos to operate. The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) requires that at least 95% of targeted online advertising reach an audience of 24 years or older, increasing operational costs for licensed casinos.
