Poker Pro Freenachos Ponders High-Stakes Challenges
Regular NL2k Freenachos, a professional poker player, has decided to temporarily stop trying to establish himself in high-stakes poker. In a recent blog post, he explained his reasons for this decision.
Freenachos quit his teaching job to focus on poker in the summer of 2021. Since then, his life has changed significantly. He has two daughters and runs an educational project called NachosPoker with 62 people. Despite these responsibilities, poker remains his main occupation. He has successfully established himself at the $5/$10 and $10/$20 limits, playing both profitably.
However, Freenachos has faced difficulties when attempting to move up to higher limits such as $25/$50 and $50/$100. He noted that the main issue at high-stakes tables is the inconsistency of action. For example, the top 10 players at NL1k played an average of 431k hands in the past 12 months, while the top 10 players at NL10k played only 28.5k hands. This discrepancy is due to the fact that high-stakes players often mix rooms and limits, making it difficult to maintain a consistent volume of play.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
