Doyle Brunson: Daniel Negreanu Changed My Poker Game
Doyle Brunson, the legendary poker player known as Texas Dolly, recently tweeted his praise for Daniel Negreanu, crediting him with forcing a change in his poker game. Brunson singled out Negreanu as the only example of a player who made him rethink his strategy.
Negreanu's unique 'small ball' style, which involved playing more pots than average but keeping them smaller, was a distinguishing feature of his game. This style allowed Negreanu to get involved in as many pots as possible, leveraging his feel for what other players were doing. His approach was a forerunner to the LAG (Loose-Aggressive) style that became popular during the poker boom, but with a focus more on being loose rather than aggressive.
Brunson, who was known for playing big pots and putting pressure on his opponents, had to rethink his strategy after seeing Negreanu's success. Negreanu's 'small ball' style was so effective that it forced Brunson to adapt his game. Recently, Negreanu has faced some setbacks, losing $1.2 million against Doug Polk and another $150,000 to Phil Hellmuth. Despite these losses, Negreanu remains confident in his abilities and is determined to get back to winning ways.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
