Daniel Negreanu's Dramatic Day at WPT Los Angeles: Singing, Robbery, and Poker
Daniel Negreanu had a dramatic day at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Los Angeles. After Canada won the hockey final against the USA, Daniel Negreanu, a Canadian citizen with a green card in the USA, sang the Canadian national anthem. This happened after Matt Savage, the tournament director, sang the anthem earlier as a joke.
Later that day, Negreanu was robbed in Los Angeles. The robbers took his money but left him with a valuable lesson—how to walk. They promised to take care of the car he had rented.
During a notable hand, Negreanu folded to an all-in move. He had 222,500 chips remaining, which was slightly above the average stack. Mark Newhaus led the tournament with 498,000 chips. Chris Murr had 489,000 chips, having won a significant portion with a set of nines. Masayuki Kagawa had 432,000 chips, known for his high-stakes cash games.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
