Negreanu Claims Victory in High Stakes Duel Against Polk

Daniel Negreanu won High Stakes Duel Round 2 against Doug Polk. The match, which lasted three hours, was characterized by a series of small and medium-sized pots. The first major hand saw Doug Polk river a flush to beat Negreanu’s top pair, but Negreanu showed his hand reading ability by getting away on the river without paying Polk off.

Negreanu took control after flopping the nut flush in a monster pot. Polk found himself in the wrong position when he three-betted K3o and fired off on the flop, turn, and river with the second nut blocker.

The final hand of the match was similar. Polk had a draw and fired all three streets, only for Negreanu to make the call with top pair. The blinds were 600/1,200, and Polk raised to 2,500 on the button with 9s7s. Negreanu called with AdTh. The flop was 6c Kc 8d, and Negreanu check/called 1,700. The turn was the Ah, giving Negreanu top pair, and Polk fired again, this time for 8,700. The Canadian called. The river was the Qc—a complete blank. Polk fired the third barrel with his missed draw, and Negreanu made the call to seal victory.
