Daniel Negreanu on Weight Loss Bets and Offline Poker Skills

Daniel Negreanu recently shared his thoughts on some high-stakes bets, including one between Shaun Deeb and Bill Perkins. Shaun had to reduce his body fat percentage from 40% to 17% within a year. Bill Perkins paid $800,000 to settle the bet, which was initially $100,000 against $1,000,000.

Negreanu mentioned that Bill Perkins wrote the book “Die with zero” and is confidently moving towards his goal through such bets. Terence Chen commented that the odds of 10 to 1 were too high and that Shaun Deeb's chances were around 4 or 5 to 1. Negreanu suggested that all those who bet on 'no' should pay 80% of their bets.

Another bet involves Jeremy Becker and Landon Tice, with a cap of $250,000. Negreanu is involved in the bet and has clearly defined all the rules and appointed three arbiters. Jeremy Becker does not have a computer and plays exclusively offline. Negreanu mentioned that Becker studies his opponents carefully and has a unique approach to the game.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
