Controversy Surrounds New World Poker Champion Jonathan Tamayo
Jonathan Tamayo is the new World Poker Champion. To allow Tamayo to enjoy his victory, his coach, Dominic Nietzsche, took on all the negative attention on social media. Nietzsche parodied Ike Hacxton's tweet from 2023, which was about the best part of winning being the money and the reactions of idiots on Twitter.
A reader pointed out that several recordings showed Tamayo approaching Nietzsche and discussing stack sizes, with Nietzsche entering the information into software. Nietzsche responded that his training sessions cost $1,000 per hour and that it was none of the reader's business what was on his laptop.
Alan Keating expressed his disapproval of the use of solvers during the tournament, stating that it goes against the spirit of the game. Daniel Negreanu reminded everyone that the use of solvers is prohibited in the tournament zone and that violators can be disqualified. Nietzsche claimed he did not violate any official WSOP 2024 rules and that there were no mentions of RTA or coaching help in the official rulebook. Fedor Holz expressed his disapproval of players using solvers or chart solutions during the tournament, stating that it is bad for the game and should be prohibited. A photograph taken from the spectator's side showed Tamayo and Nietzsche using a laptop, which was widely criticized on Reddit.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
