Browns QB Battle: Watson Likely to Start Despite Controversy

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation is heavily influenced by financial commitments and player performance. Deshaun Watson is set to earn $230 million over the course of his contract with the Browns, and is expected to be the starting quarterback for Week 1.

Watson's performance and contract make him the likely starter, despite facing credible accusations of sexual misconduct. He led a scoring drive and completed 11 of 15 passes for 126 yards in a preseason game against the Bears, but also had a turnover when shaky under pressure on a fourth down late in the half.

Shedeur Sanders, a second-year quarterback, is also in the mix for the starting position. Sanders had an ugly overthrow for an easy interception in the preseason game. Watson is expected to earn his final $46 million this season, fully guaranteed. He has played just 19 games for the Browns, throwing 12 interceptions and 19 touchdowns with a QB rating of 80.7.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
