Dan Shak's Dominant Performance at Aussie Millions Poker Tournament
The Aussie Millions poker tournament has been a significant event in the poker world since 2011, hosting $25,000 events that attract top players from around the globe. The first such event, named Full Tilt Poker Invitational Shootout, featured 24 professional players and friends, with David Oppenheim emerging as the winner.
In 2012, the format changed to a 'half-shootout,' allowing all players to participate. Dominikas Karmazinas won $200,000 in that year's tournament. The 2013 event saw a significant German presence, with Igor Kurganov emerging as the champion. This year's tournament set new records with 65 buy-ins, including re-entries, and a strong German contingent.
Notable players included Dan Shak, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, and Daniel Negreanu, among others. Phil Ivey was notably absent due to the Super Bowl, and his participation in the WPT Alpha8 series was confirmed. Dan Shak had a strong performance, eliminating several high-profile players including Joe Hachem and Jeff Rossiter. Daniel Negreanu was eliminated after a crucial decision against Ole Schemion. The tournament continued with key players like Jason Mercier, Max Altergott, and Tobias Reinkemeier advancing.

Argus RivenI've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
