Slow play in poker
Definition
Playing a strong hand passively with checks and calls to induce bluffs or keep weaker hands in the pot.
Slow playing can win more if the opponent is aggressive, but it is risky: it gives free cards that can beat you, and the opponent may not bet anyway. It works best with the nuts on dry boards.
Most strong hands are better played fast to build the pot and protect against draws.
