The Stars Group Sees 27% Revenue Boost Amid Pandemic
The Stars Group, global leader in online poker, reported a 27% increase in revenue for the first quarter of 2020, amounting to $735 million. This significant boost is attributed to the surge in online poker traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced many people to stay home.
The company's merger with Flutter Entertainment plc was successfully completed. On April 24, a shareholders' meeting is scheduled to finalize the merger of shares between The Stars Group and Flutter Entertainment. This merger is expected to double the capitalization of The Stars Group, surpassing that of their closest competitors, GVC Holdings.
PokerStars, a subsidiary of The Stars Group, launched its client in Pennsylvania at the end of 2019. The revenue from PokerStars PA and PokerStars NJ pools in the first quarter exceeded expectations, partly due to the BountyBuilder series in February and the SCOOP series in April.
