WSOPE Main Event: Key Hands and Player Eliminations

The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) main event reached its final stages with several key hands and player eliminations. Greg Mueller lost almost all his chips in a hand against Anthony Newman, who had 2x 2x and hit a 2x on the turn. Greg Mueller started the day with one of the smallest stacks and needed a lot of luck to stay in the tournament.

In one of the early hands, Greg Mueller was dealt Jd Jc on the big blind, Brian Powell raised, and Daniel Steinberg three-bet. Mueller went all-in, Powell folded, and Steinberg called with pocket dames. The board As 6s 6h Ac 6c equalized the strength of the players' hands, and Mueller remained in the tournament. In the next hand, Mueller went all-in with Ah Qd, and Powell called with Ac Ks. The flop was 9s 6s 5c, the turn 8c, and the river 6d, eliminating Mueller in 22nd place with £26,400.

Yani Soinula targeted a specific player, Phil Ivey, and lost his all-in push with Jc Qd against Ivey's 4d 4s. Victor Bloom increased his stack to 900,000 after eliminating Thomas Bisson with Kd Qh against Ax Qx. Arno Mattern showed remarkable resilience, doubling up with 6s 6h against Qd Kc and later increasing his stack to 83,000. David 'dpeters17' Peters increased his stack to 850,000 after a series of bets against Andrew Pentling, showing Ac 4c against Ah Jd.

I've spent years at the tables — cash and tournaments — and just as long shaping poker copy behind the scenes: room reviews, bonus fine print, tournament notes. At PokerInsider I write the way I wish more sites would: clear structure, honest trade-offs, no hype. Whether you're new or already grinding, I care about what the offer actually costs you — rake, variance, and the fine print — and I treat responsible play as part of the job, not a footnote.
